about

Kapitolina Tsvetkova , born in 1992 in Chelyabinsk (Russia), is a stage director, stage designer and artist based in France. Her works toured internationally and appeared in programming of national ( and regional theatres as well as opera (Opera de Lille, Opera de Montpelier).

Working across experimental forms of opera, performance and installation, she is exploring the questions of fragility, feminity, ecology and memory.

Engaging in trans-disciplinary research she works in collaboration with specialists from different scientific and technical fields (working with biologists, chemists, engineers, perfumers) to challenge the traditional art forms and their connection to contemporary issues (Master of Arts thesis in olfactory art, creator of science-art project “Plant opera”). She works with different mediums (video, sculpture, sound, scenography) to create multi-sensory and multidimensional installations and performances, in which space, object and body strive to coexist and interact fairly.

Master of Arts (Haute École des Arts du Rhin, Strasbourg, Fine art department, 2017-2020), degree in opera stage directing (Saint-Petersburg Academy of music, 2009-2014) she combines both practices creating unique musical instruments/installations/sound environments/sound costumes that exist in exhibition spaces as well as are activated in performance and theatre pieces.

Her background in puppet theatre (as performer of Magic Theatre White Goat), circus (as clown performer, assistant director of Daniele Finzi Pasca), events (assistant choreographer of the Olympic Games ceremonies, associate choreographer FeVi 2019 etc.) and opera (director for several contemporary opera productions; assistant director stage and movement director at Deutsche opera, Zurich Opera, Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Teatro Real Madrid, Ruhrtrienalle etc.) allows her work to combine multiple artistic languages and experiment with their borderlines.

As assistant director, revival director and movement director collaborates with Dmitri Tcherniakov, Kattie Mitchell, David Hermann, Daniele Finzi Pasca.
